Naivasha lies 95 kilometers northwest of Nairobi. Let’s check out the list of fun places to visit in Naivasha.
- Lake Naivasha
- Hell’s Gate National Reserve
- Crescent Island Game Sanctuary
- Olkaria Geothermal Spa
- Mt. Longonot National Park
- Crater Lake Camp
- Lake Naivasha
Do hippos pique your interest? Lake Naivasha is surrounded by beautiful scenery, making it an ideal spot for establishing camp. Lake Naivasha, on the other hand, is a one-of-a-kind experience!
Crocodiles and hippos abound in the lake. You might even take a boat ride across the lake to see the breathtaking scenery.
You’ll also have the opportunity to observe the various birds that perch atop the hippos and crocs. These make the lake stand out among the fun places to visit in Naivasha.
How to access Lake Naivasha
Naivasha town is 12 kilometers from Lake Naivasha. You could take public transportation, such as a bus or a van, which will drop you off at the Moi South Road junction, where you can lease a motorcycle or simply trek to your destination.
2. Hell’s Gate National Reserve
Hell’s Gate has some beautiful landscapes, from its massive, towering stones to the volcanic red earth paths. The park is littered with paths and trails that let you ride through the woods and overgrown shrubs that lead to a massive cliff where the good stuff is.
A variety of species, including gazelles, zebras, and hartebeests, call the cliff home. I realize that viewing animals on TV is a bit of a cliché, but going up and personal is unlike anything else. It takes your breath away!
How to access Hell’s Gate National Reserve
Take the Moi south lake road from Naivasha town. It’s around 34 kilometers away.
You could take a taxi straight to the destination from Naivasha town.
3. Crescent Island Game Sanctuary
More wildlife? The Crescent refuge is home to a diverse range of animals and birds. It’s noted for having the most animals per square kilometer in a single region.
This may be owing to the park’s superb nutrition. You can see the food chain in action in the park, notably between carnivores and herbivores.
Apart from the traditional vistas of lions, gazelles, waterbucks, and impalas, you also get a bonus glimpse of bushbucks, reptiles such as pythons, and other spectacular wildlife begging for your attention.
How to Access the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary
This destination is 26 minutes away from Naivasha town, just on the Moi South Lake Road.
4. Olkaria Geothermal Spa
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here; this isn’t your average spa. It’s one-of-a-kind because it’s located within a national park, and the water heating phenomenon is entirely natural. Immerse yourself in the heated pool for a once-in-a-lifetime bath.
Directions to the Olkaria Geothermal Spa
To get to the spa from Naivasha town, drive through 35km on Moi South Lake Road to Hell’s Gate national park. The spa is within the park.
Fancy a hike? You wouldn’t want to miss this one; therefore, I recommend it. This particular park is laced with hills and mountains, ensuring that your trek is one to remember. Did you know the rift valley runs through the park?
This fact has a significant impact on everything from the climate to the climatic zones of the forest.
The scenery is breathtaking, and you may come across species such as buffaloes, antelopes, and leopards. Bikes are provided at the park, but mostly for long-distance walks; therefore, they are a must-have.
How to access Mt. Longonot National Park
Mt. Longonot is 26 kilometers from Naivasha. If you’re driving, you’ll head south on Moi Road. You’ll spend 41 minutes on both ways. If you elect to take a taxi, the total cost of the trip may be $4.
6. Crater Lake Camp
Crater lake was formed from volcanic activity. It’s only a few kilometers from Naivasha Park and Lake Naivasha. Because the lake itself has little to offer, the surrounding areas are rich in nature trails and camping places.
In addition, there are also fantastic hotels and resorts nearby with beautiful rooms and suites where you can spend that unforgettable evening. I mean, how practical is that for campers?
Getting to Crater Lake Camp
The camp is just 17km from Lake Naivasha, which means a taxi ride away, though I would recommend a four-wheel drive on such lousy terrain.
